DescriptionStudents selecting this subject will be required to identify a need, challenge or problem in the community and then design and produce a product/artefact which will provide a solution. The subject allows all areas in the Design and Technology area to be utilised in order to satisfy the project requirements.
TopicsStudents will be introduced to a vast range of tools, machines, equipment and processes which will ensure a successful outcome of their chosen project. Major foci therefore will be OHS&W as well as communication and planning skills.
AssessmentAssessment will focus on a contract established by the student and a ‘client’ from the community. Upon completion of the contract the student will be required to investigate, design, plan and manufacture a product/artefact which will satisfy all of the requirements of the contract.
Relationship To Further StudyThis course provides students with sound practical and communication skills useful for further studies, employment or personal development.
PrerequisitesIt is desirable for students to have successfully completed year 11 Technology Studies.

Safe working practice is essential. Sturdy shoes and safety glasses must be worn at all times when involved in practical sessions.
Special ConditionsSome work outside of scheduled lesson times and a contribution towards cost of materials will be required. Safe working practices in line with OHS&W regulations apply.
CostsSome contribution toward the cost of materials will be required and this will vary, according to individual projects.
