DescriptionThis course requires the students to complete 3 units of work (Practical, Group Work & Major Assignment). In the Practical Unit students participate in 3 sports or leisure activities (1 of these is aquatics which is compulsory). In the Group Work Unit students work in small groups and plan and develop 4 lesson plans for a sport of their choice and then conduct these lessons to a small group (primary school students/peers). In the Major Assignment /connections students investigate and measure their own fitness and complete an activity analysis of a sport of their choice linking with the group assignment. Students also help organise a school sports team to complete in a Vista competition .

Group Work – Lesson Planning and Teaching Primary School Students


Major Assignment – Student’s choose a topic of their choice that they are interested in which focuses on an aspect that impacts on an athletes’ performance.
Assessment3 Practicals –Observation Checklist, Practical Inquiry Assignment, Peer and self assessments/evaluations: 40%
Group Activity (Teaching primary students) – Lesson Plans & Performance Checklist & Reflection & Evaluation: 30%
Major Assignment : 30% (Moderated by SACE)

PrerequisitesAssumed Knowledge: it is recommended that students undertaking Stage 2 Sports Studies have successfully completed at least one semester of Stage 1 Physical Education and have a high interest in Coaching & Teaching.
Costs$60 for the compulsory sessions for Aquatics as part of one of their Practicals at West Lakes Aquatics Centre.
